It can difficult to know how to entertain your young ones over the festive season, and the sheer amount of things to do across Scotland can be overwhelming.

From dazzling light trails to bustling Christmas markets, you are unlikely to ever be too far from a festive activity worth checking out. However, sometimes it is worth thinking outside the box and looking a bit further afield.

As reported by the Scottish Daily Express, Magical Winter Nights at Brechin Castle Centre in Angus is set to return for another year next month. With the castle located less than two hours from both Edinburgh and Glasgow by car, it is perfectly situated for a family evening out.

Suitable for visitors of all ages, the Magical Winter Nights light event includes an illuminated woodland trail that is filled with "spellbinding lights, enchanting projections, and much more" according to the Brechin Castle Centre website. Featuring brand-new lights and special effects, visual art, and interactive lighting installations, Brechin Castle Centre promises a "truly enchanting experience for all".

Meanwhile, other Brechin Castle Centre attractions that are enjoyed around the year — including the giant maze, sledge run, crazy golf, jumping pillows and zip slides — will also be beautifully lit up during the event. There will even be festive treats including toasted marshmallows that can be enjoyed amidst the warmth of festive firepits.

Additionally, there is a farm shop on the site that has plenty of options if you're looking to pick up some Christmas gifts.

Set within the beautiful 70-acre country park, the immersive Christmas experience will transform the grounds into a dazzling winter extravaganza from December 1 to 24.
