Fire crews raced to a huge blaze at a McDonald's restaurant in Angus this morning.

Emergency services descended on the Ethiebeaton Park area in Monifieth after the alarm was raised at around 1.15am on Tuesday. Images shared on social media showed the restaurant completely engulfed in flames.

The A92 was quickly closed by police in both directions from West Grange Roundabout to Ethiebeaton Roundabout while crews battled the blaze. The road has since reopened.

It's understood crews from Kingsway, Balmossie, Macalpine and Blackness fire stations have been sent to the scene and firefighters remain in attendance.

It's unknown at this stage if anyone has been injured as a result of the blaze but residents nearby were advised to keep their windows closed.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received the call at 1.15am to attend a fire in the Ethiebeaton Park area. Four appliances are in attendance.”

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Police Scotland would like to advise that the A92 is closed from the West Grange roundabout to the Ethiebeation Roundabout in both directions. The closure is due to smoke from a nearby fire. Residents are advised to keep their windows closed."
