A woman who couldn't get rid of a lingering, disgusting smell from her bedroom was shocked to find out the reason it smelt so fishy.

Claudia Anderson was left embarrassed by the smell and decided to google the issue. She was relieved to get to the bottom of the issue when realising it might be because of a dangerous electrical fault in her bedroom, the Mirror r eports.

Taking to TikTok, the 26-year-old warned others about what can happen. She said: "Here's something I didn't know about a potential electrical call fire hazard until it happened to me. Now, for a few weeks, me and my husband were walking into our bedroom and thinking, 'Oh my God, it stinks of fish in our bedroom'.

"We didn't want to tell anyone about it because you're a bit embarrassed."

The couple originally thought it could be due to a plumbing issue and assumed that's where the fishy smell was coming from.

"We took out the U bend from the sink, made sure the toilet was super clean, cleaned the plug hole in the shower...everything, but the smell still lingered," she added.

When she realised the smell was still there, she decided to google the issue to see if she could get to the bottom of it, and that's when she came across the worrying revelation.

She asked her family for help when she realised it could be an electrical fault that was causing such an unpleasant smell.

She continued: "I messaged my brother-in-law who's an electrician, and he said, 'Yeah, that's probably something you should get checked out' so I called my father-in-law, who also used to be an electrician, and he came around this morning and had a look," and added: "I literally would never, ever have guessed that that is what that is...ever."

Claudia then showed the wires that were causing the issue - and pointed to the fuse box and said: "This is attached to our en suite and there's our bedroom. So every time we walked in here, we were like, 'this smells like fish,' but it's actually this.

"There was a wire that had become disconnected, and I don't know if you can see but it was actually melting the plastic on the inside of the socket."

She added: "Look at that. That is terrifying! We were so, so lucky that we caught that before that burst into flames." Using her situation to warn others, she urged people to call an electrician if they ever smell an unknown fishy smell. People were quick to praise her for raising awareness.

"That happened to me I found it just in time my living room light was melting. Would've lost my house in a fire any later," one TikTok user wrote, while another added: "Lucky you!!! I've made a mental note of fishy might mean electrical. So thanks for that!"
