Lee Bullen reckons Saturday’s trip to East End Park could be the perfect platform to relaunch Ayr United’s promotion push.

Bullen’s side go into the weekend fixture off the back of an important 2-1 away win at Airdrie 11 days ago.

A win in Fife will see the Honest Men leapfrog the 6th placed Pars and propel them to within touching distance of a promotion play-off spot once again.

Boss Bullen, though, is wary of United’s recent record up at Dunfermline and warned that it’ll be a difficult task to come down the road with maximum points.

He said: “A few people have told me we’ve not had the best of records up there.

“The last time we went there we played tremendously well, but we lost 2-1 after losing two stupid, late goals.

“Dunfermline should potentially be a Premier League club, but ultimately we are here in this league battling with them.

“They came up last season with a lot of confidence, with a winning mentality. And they have recruited well, so this will be a very tough game, 100 per cent.

“We’ve not started the league season as well as we would have hoped. But after that win against Airdrie we are three points off the play-off places; it’s ridiculous how tight this league is going to be all season.

“As disappointing as we have been, the result at Airdrie- and I don’t know the last time they lost at their place- was a great three points.

“So we’ll be heading to East End Park with the same mentality. We’ll give the opposition 100 per cent respect, but we’ll be going there with the same determination we had at Airdrie.

“Airdrie were another team with a winning mentality and confidence after promotion last season. Dunfermline are exactly the same.

“While we know it will be tough, we’ll go there knowing we are capable of taking three points.”

Centre half Frankie Musonda is another couple of weeks away from a return after a recent thigh injury, while Ben Dempsey is back in training but also still some way from a return.

Veteran winger Aiden McGeady is back training after a hamstring problem, but this weekend will be too soon for his return to the fold.
