A rugby supporter was hurled down three rows inside the Stade Veledrome as an unsavoury ruck broke it during England's World Cup quarter final with Fiji.

The astonishing video shows a scrum breaking out in the stands in a scene akin to a comedy sketch with punters in full Le Grande Armee garb throwing fisticuffs with the action on the pitch raging down. But frivolity quickly turned down to fear as one fan was lobbed like a lawn dart and landed on his face three rows below.

Rugby is often claimed to be the gentleman's sport, however, pleasantries were in short supply as anger was the order of the day and punches were exchanged as terrified onlookers cleared out amid the pathetic scenes from the yobs in attendance. Rugby Union punters have long mixed together but measures will likely be in place if such scenes are repeated with the world fixated by the enthralling action from France.
