Tartan Army punters were left shocked after the stairs in their holiday accommodation 'disappeared' overnight.

Foot soldier, Marie Wilson, 67, jetted off with her friends to Georgia to watch the Scotland game earlier this week.

They arrived at their accommodation on Monday and were taken aback by the 'state' of the stairs as they appeared to be rubble on the steps. Marie explained that the rest of the apartment was beautiful so they decided they would 'cope' with the stairs in the entrance hall. However, on Thursday morning, the staircase had 'disappeared' after being removed by builders, reports Edinburgh Live.

Marie says that the property in Tbilisi also lost power and they were 'trapped' in the flat for an hour.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live , Marie said: "When we arrived we were concerned when we saw the entryway as we felt the stairs may be dangerous to climb after returning in the early hours from a night out in town.

"However, once we were in the apartment we were relieved to see that it was beautiful inside. We put our concerns to one side, deciding that if we hugged the wall going up and down we would be fine.

"Then, on Thursday, the day of the game we opened the door to see that the stairs had disappeared. There were two builders who did not speak English who had removed the first flight of stairs and cut off our power.

"We were only out of power for an hour but this left us completely without communication. We were a bit concerned as we had to get out to go to the game. The stairs were our only exit, so we were trapped!"

She added: "We checked all the windows and balcony for another means of exit but there was none.

"When the power was restored we contacted the host who came to help us communicate with the builders. He had been unaware that the repairs were scheduled.

Marie said they woke up in the morning and the staircase outside their room had vanished.

"By this time the builders had replaced the top flight of stairs and our host negotiated with the builders to give us time to leave the apartment before they removed the bottom flight.

"To be honest, it was such a good trip and our predicament gave our fellow Tartan Army travellers a good laugh!"

Marie and her friends Iain Beat 56, Kerie Wright 48, John Wright 72 were eventually able to get out of the property to explore the Georgian capital and made it to the game where Scotland drew 2-2 with Georgia.

They returned from the game to find new stairs in place.
