Bologna striker Sydney van Hooijdonk has left the door open for a January exit with Celtic reportedly considering reviving their interest.

The son of former Hoops' hero Pierre was touted with a move to the Scottish Premiership champions last summer having impressed during a loan spell at Heerenveen - which saw him net 16 goals in 32 games last season before he returned to the Serie A side. Bologna boss Thiago Motta closed the exit door and offered the 23-year-old a second chance at the Italian side - but he has failed to make the breakthrough this term.

He has made just five league appearance off the bench - combining a total of 41 minutes of action off the bench. Van Hooijdonk's only start of the campaign came in the Coppa Italia victory over Verona - which saw him net his only goal of the campaign. Gazetta dello Sport report that the forward could be allowed to leave on loan to free up space in squad to bring in another attacker in the winter window.

Boss Motta is said to be looking to add more competition for first-choice frontman Joshua Zirkzee. Brendan Rodgers has already admitted that the Hoops are in the market for a striker with both Kyogo Furushashi and Hyeongyu Oh set to play at the Asian Cup in January.

But the Bologna man has insisted he must ramp up his game time - whether it is in Italy or elsewhere. Asked about rumours over an exit - with Celtic being named as an interested suitor - Van Hooijdonk told Corriere dello Sport : “I’m fine. I’m at a good team and I like life a lot. But I have to do what’s best for my growth. For my career. I also have to play.

“In football, things can change quickly. There are two months left until January and who knows what will happen? Now, there is Joshua who is playing a great season. Do the rumours about my possible transfer bother me? It’s normal when you don’t play. In the last year-and-a-half, I’ve played a lot and also scored a lot. In my opinion, Bologna isn’t the same as when I came here two years ago. Everything has improved. The level… everything. We’ll see what happens.”
