Rangers legends are jumping on the Lawrence Shankland hype train amid rising speculation the Hearts captain could make a move to Ibrox.

Shankland was the hero for Scotland in the Euro 2024 qualifier in Georgia as the striker climbed off the bench to rescue a point in Euro 2024 qualification for Steve Clarke's side - which will only see the Jambos increase their valuation of their star man and stand-in captain with winter window approaching. Philippe Clement will be looking to put his own stamp on the side he took over from Michael Beale when the January sales roll around and several Ibrox fan favourites reckon the 28-year-old should be top of the list.

Former Rangers skipper Barry Ferguson joined those issuing pitches to the forward on the Go Radio Football Show - as he told Shankland he would score plenty of goals at Ibrox. The gushing former captain said: "Don't get me wrong, he had a poor time of it in Belgium. He came back and Robbie Neilson took the punt on him, and I'll be honest I think he was good when he left but he is better since he came back. I think Lawrence Shankland if he joined Rangers would do a right good job and score goals."

Kenny Miller is also firmly in the fan club as the former Light Blues' attacker told Rangers they should get the best striker in the Scottish Premiership outside of Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi. Speaking to BBC Sportsound, he said: “For me, his game has developed as each year passes, he’s matured into a really good all round striker.

“My statement at the start of last season was that he was unproven at the top flight in terms of real goal-scoring touch. Well he smashed that out of the water last year by getting 24 league goals, I think he got 28 all in.

“He is proven now, he’s probably the best striker in the league outside of Kyogo at this moment in time. I’m surprised Rangers didn’t have a nibble at him in the summer."

Lee McCulloch also chimed in on PLZ - having coached the player during his time at Tynecastle with Robbie Neilson. He said: "For me, he should be a certainty (for the Euro 2024 squad). With him not being in the squad there, you just don't know. When called upon he has answered. He came off the bench, and got his goal and has a lot of people talking about him. If it was up to me he would definitely be on that plane."

Smirking former Hibs striker Tam McManus then chimed in - stating the only way to guarantee a spot on the flight to Germany would be to make a move to Govan: "If he signs for Rangers he is a certainty. I think if he signs for Rangers he will be in the squad, so will see what happens in January."
