A man has been charged over the alleged murder of his housemate, who was found dead in the property. Diogo Bettencourt has been detained by police after the body of Anthony Sharma was discovered in the home they shared.

Sharma, 43, was fatally injured at the property in the Birmingham suburb of Erdington on Friday, November 10. His body was discovered just after 1pm.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene but nothing could be done to save Mr Sharma. Bettencourt was arrested at the property and has been charged with murder, Birmingham Live reports.

Bettencourt, who is said to have lived at the same House of Multiple Occupancy as Mr Sharma, has also been charged with using a bank card belonging to the victim after his death – an alleged fraud by false representation.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: “We’ve charged a man with murder as the victim has today [Sunday, November 12] been named as Anthony Sharma.

"The 43-year-old was found with fatal injuries at his home in Doidge Road, Birmingham just after 1pm on Friday, November 10. Nothing could be done to save him and he was declared deceased at the scene.

"Diogo Bettencourt was arrested at the property and has now been charged with Mr Sharma’s murder along with fraud by false representation, after a bank card belonging to the victim was used after his death.

"Bettencourt, aged 35 from the same multi-occupancy address, will appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court tomorrow (13 Nov). Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mr Sharma at this sad time."
