An apple pie-inspired porridge recipe has been concocted by chef Gordon Ramsay as a hearty way to start a winter's morning this year.

While the Scotland-born has been known for his flavourful and detailed recipes, he also enjoys the simple things in life, like a bowl of porridge, reports the Express.

So, Gordon has shared his perfect recipe for a hearty winter's morning, with his apple-pie spiced oats that could have even the pickiest of eaters enjoying a bowl of porridge.

This recipe features in his book, Gordon Ramsay’s Ultimate Fit Food, and is a perfect blend of healthy ingredients with a sweet kick, allowing you to indulge in your cravings early on.

What’s more, it requires just a simple blend of ingredients that are likely already lurking in the kitchen cupboard.

Ingredients

  • 150g jumbo rolled oats
  • Four dates, stoned and finely chopped
  • Half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • Pinch of ground allspice
  • Two eating apples, cored and cut into chunks
  • 400ml semi-skimmed milk, plus extra for serving
  • Sea salt

Apple porridge is quick and easy to make with just a few ingredients

To begin, add the oats, chopped dates and spices to a medium saucepan, alongside three-quarters of the apple chunks and a pinch of salt - followed by 400ml of milk.

While the recipe calls for semi-skimmed milk, any plant-based alternative will also be sufficient for cooking the porridge.

Add 400ml of hot water and stir over medium heat until the porridge begins to simmer.

Then, allow the porridge to bubble away for around 15-20 minutes, and stir regularly so the creamy consistency is attained.

Gordon noted that the apple chunks should absorb into the porridge and the liquid should have evaporated into the mixture by the time you serve up.

Portion the porridge into warmed bowls and top with the remaining apple chunks, and some extra milk if desired.
