Ange Postecoglou left Celtic for Tottenham Hotspur this summer after winning five trophies in his first two seasons in Glasgow including two Scottish Premiership titles and two Viaplay Cup wins. Plus his achievements coupled with a relentless determination to win saw him voted Manager of the Year for 2022/23.

And that impressive run has continued in the English Premier League. But it could have panned out much differently before life at Celtic Park. Just four years ago he was on the brink of landing a job in the English Championship with Huddersfield Town. But he failed to get it. Town director of football David Webb takes up the story.

“We had a couple of long-distance phone calls. I spoke to him and really liked him as a person,” Webb told The Sun. "He was someone who I felt would have fit Huddersfield really well because of his values and I liked the way he played.

“I like authenticity and he was just himself. This is me, this is how I am, this is how I play, this is what I do. He’d done his homework on the Huddersfield squad. But where he was situated, we couldn’t move quick enough to get him over the line where we needed it to be.”

Postecoglou stayed in Japan for another two years before he landed the Celtic job in June 2021. He bowed out with a domestic Treble to earn the Spurs job this summer.
