Oban comes alive during the winter

Now that winter is fast approaching and Christmas spirit is starting to fill the air, it is the perfect time to plan a festive Scottish staycation.

While Edinburgh and Glasgow are always safe bets if you're looking to soak up the winter atmosphere thanks to their yearly Christmas markets, there are plenty of smaller destinations that are well worth checking out if you are looking for something a bit more quiet and laid back.

One of these is the stunning coastal town of Oban, which the Daily Record has chosen for the 10th edition of our weekly series highlighting Scotland's must-see towns and villages. The Argyll and Bute resort town is getting ready to kick off its yearly Oban Winter Festival this Saturday, so now is the perfect time for a trip.

The 10-day celebration will include parades, performing acts, fire art, pipers, and more. Also featured in the massive programme of events are the spectacular Opening Parade, a festive Winter Woods walk, a Winter Roller Land, and even a Christmas Singalong.

There will also be late-night shopping where visitors and locals alike can pick up all kinds of festive trinkets, so there really is something for everybody.

Meanwhile, keep reading for some photographs that show some other reasons why Oban is a must-visit destination this festive season. Meanwhile, you can find out more about the town and its highlights on Tripadvisor.
