Gunmen shot at multiple building during an attack on a Scots street that left residents 'terrified'. Shots were fired during the incident at a block of flats on Greendykes Road in Edinburgh at 3.15am on Thursday November 2.

Another building was then targeted later the same day, with police returning to the scene at around 10.15am.

Edinburgh Live reports that bullet holes were seen in terrifying pictures of damaged windows. Police say there is a possibility the incidents were targeted attacks.

Locals have spoken of their terror over the incidents, which resulted in the street being locked down by cops for over 24 hours as they investigated.

One said: "Everyone around here knows that it is a nice area apart from that one person who was targeted. You can obviously see the damage to two different flats so they shot at both not knowing which one was the right one.

Windows were boarded up after being shot at.

"I just hope the person in the other flat is ok but it is terrifying - anything could have happened. He could have kids for all I know. The area is nice and we like living here but there seems to be trouble following this guy.

"Police were searching a car on the street and a few months ago another was set on fire."

It's understood there were people in the street at the time of the second incident.

A male on an electric motorcycle carrying a passenger was spotted in the area at the time of both incidents. On Saturday, detectives were spotted carrying out door-to-door enquiries.

One local, speaking anonymously, said: "It's generally a quiet area so to hear about something as serious as that happening just around the corner is terrifying. I could see one smashed window at one flat and the flat next door also had a window boarded up.

"I haven't spoken to anyone who saw either attack but I hope the police catch whoever is responsible and that is the end of it." Yesterday, Police Scotland confirmed enquiries are ongoing.

Speaking previously, Detective Sergeant Gavin Howat, Gayfield CID, said: "Whilst this may have been intended as a targeted attack, the fact is that a number of shots were fired indiscriminately.

"The second incident was in broad daylight and there were people in the street at the time. Thankfully no one was injured but this was a reckless act with no regard for members of the public.

"It is imperative that we find those responsible and for that we need the help of the local community. I know that people may be reluctant to come forward.

"I would encourage the use of Crimestoppers where information can be given anonymously. Officers have been in the area since the attack checking CCTV and speaking to local residents.

There was a heavy police presence in the area.

"From our enquiries so far we believe that there was male on an electric motorcycle with a pillion passenger around the time of both incidents. On the second occasion they were seen to make off towards Craigmillar Castle Avenue.

"I am keen to hear from anyone who has private CCTV or doorbell camera footage, or from motorists driving on Greendykes Road or the surrounding roads between 3am and 3.30am, and 10am and 10.30am. Their footage could prove very useful to our enquiry.

"High visibility officers remain on patrol in the area, and I would urge people to speak to officers with regard to any concerns or provide information."
