A new study has revealed Bathgate-born David Tennant as the most popular portrayal of The Doctor, achieving the highest rated episodes on average since the series was rebooted.

The IMDB ratings for all Doctor Who episodes
that have aired since 2005 were analysed by OnlineCasinos365 to determine which portrayal of The Doctor achieves the highest rating on average across all their appearances.

The study also analysed which series had the highest average rating based on its individual episode ratings.

David Tennant, who starred as the tenth Doctor, was found to have the highest rated episodes on average, at 8.4 out of 10.

Fellow Scot Peter Capaldi – who is related to Lewis Capaldi – starred as the twelfth Doctor and came fourth with an average episode rating of 7.81 out of 10.

He starred in three series and is the oldest actor to portray the character since the show’s revival.

Steven Moffat was the head writer during Capaldi’s stint as The Doctor.

Tennant has starred in the highest number of Doctor Who episodes, with 47 appearances in total across several series.

This includes his return for the 50th anniversary and several special episodes between 2008 and 2010.

Fan favourite Welsh screenwriter, Russell T Davies, was the show’s primary writer throughout Tennant’s portrayal as the Time Lord. Tennant is set to reprise the role of The Doctor for a three-part special in November, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the show.

He is expected to regenerate into the show’s 15th Doctor, who will be played by Glasgow actor and Sex Education star, Ncuti Gatwa, and will lead the series from December.
