This weekend marks Remembrance Day and Remembrance Sunday, two days on which the country comes together to remember those who have lost their lives in wars around the world.

Coinciding with the day the First World War ended, on November 11, 1918, a period of silence is held every year to honour the military and civilian servicemen and women who have died in the line of duty.

With the memorial day dating back to the armistice signed between the Allied Forces and Germany that ended World War One, it is important to remember the devastating impact the global conflict had.

Most people today can only read about what life was like during World War One, but photographs can give a deeper insight into the struggles that men, woman, and children across Scotland and beyond faced during the 1910s.

In honour of Remembrance Day, the Daily Record has collected a series of photographs captured throughout the First World War. Continue reading for 12 images taken of Scots during the war.
